Soutwestern Chicken Burgers

I know, I know – it’s been a long while!  But, I’ve been cooking a lot lately and things are going on in my life and I’ve decided to write again, at least sporadically. =)

Today, I’m sharing a recipe I just tried and loved!  

Southwestern Chicken Burgers

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground chicken (you could use turkey if you like)
  • 1/2 c finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 c finely chopped cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp chopped jalapeno
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/3 c finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste

Mix everything in a bowl until evenly distributed, but don’t overwork the mixture. Wet your hands and make patties with the mixture (it’s really sticky!). Grill burgers over medium heat until cooked through (aprox. 5-7 min. per side). I ended up with 6 burgers. Serve with toppings of your choice.  Would be great with: salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. 

I served on a bed of baby spinach and topped with sour cream, fresh guacamole and some green onions.  It was so yummy, I didn’t even miss the bun! Enjoy!

  1. Wow! Looks delicious! I’ll have to make these next week. I’ve already planned and shopped for this week. You’re food always looks so pretty! I stink at that. LOL
